It’s hard to believe that 5 months have passed since the last post on the TTIK site. Obviously I took the concept of “Freedom” to also mean freedom from posting updates.

A lot has changed since the last post. The importance of Freedom still rings true in many areas, but the biggest topic I want to address again is SMR: Small, Measurable, Results.

Whether your goal is to lose weight, get in better shape, make $500 more per month or meet the person of of your dreams you need to set goals for yourself. It all starts with your first goal.

People are afraid of failure so they often never even try. Those people that are successful are the people that have forgotten about fear, set their goals and reached them. The feeling of accomplishment is amazing and it drives you to continue and create bigger and better goals.

You may want to create a full-time income online and to do that you need to earn at least $65,000 per year. That’s a big chunk of change, but when you break it down into manageable goals you can accomplish it.

Start with just trying to make an extra $100.00 per month. That alone could cover the cost of your cell phone, cable bill or extra groceries. Then shoot for $500, $1000 and so on. When you reach your first goal your motivation is going to sore…you’re going to get in tune with what needs to be done and you will get focused quickly.

1 out of 10 online marketers end up giving up their online dreams because they can’t seem to reach their dream of 45k in 30 days by pushing a button. The only marketers making money like that are the marketers that are getting YOU to push THEIR buy button. Don’t fall for that.

Another very important rule for setting a goal is being accountable for reaching it. Share your goal with friends, colleagues or anyone that is going to motivate and push you. They must hold you accountable for reaching your goal and encourage you to achieve it.

Nothing will motivate you more than someone cheering you on and telling you that they believe in you. Stay away from the negative nay-sayers and surround yourself with believers and doers. Staying positive is important.

In some upcoming posts I’m going to share some results in a variety of areas that I’ve been involved with over the last 5 months. I’ve set several goals and with the help of close friends I’ve reached and exceeded those goals very quickly. It all has to do with encouragement, the size of your goal and the timeframe.

It’s been very interesting last few years. When I first got started, the very first marketing package I purchased was Mike Filsaime’s Butterfly Marketing. I scrimped and saved every last penny in order to purchase the $1997 course, only to find out that exactly 18 days later, it would be available as a download version for a fraction of the cost. I missed the boat on that one.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s an incredible course, but several people who spent lots of money on the course were a little upset that it was being given away for free. But, I guess that’s to be expected in the Internet Marketing industry.

Many of you probably won’t know what that means. Others know exactly what that means. You can get access to the script that was being sold for $2000. You can then use the script any way you like and even put your name on it and call it your own.

Why’s that important? Well, if you’re a programmer or have access to someone with programming skills, you could modify the Butterfly Marketing Script, change the look, add some features, rebrand it, and sell it for a profit.

Sound Good? Sure it is. Will you ever “bottle it” and sell it as your own? Realistically, probably not.

Personally, I like the concept of having access to it if I ever needed it for anything else.

What’s the Catch?

The catch is that if you want support and to be able to learn how the script works, and get access to other developers, you need to pay a fee to join the developer network.

I’ve seen some software moving in this direction, but not much. Do you need to join the developer network? If you’re planning on developing the script further and making changes, I think it would be helpful. As a programmer having been inside the code and use it myself, it can be cumbersome. Having that additional help would be worthwhile.

If you’re not a programmer and have no immediate plans to do anything with the software, just grab your open source copy and hang on it.

I’ve heard so much about Facebook advertising that I decided to take it for a spin myself. Before I get into the details, I want to put out an important disclaimer:

I am not a Pay Per Click (PPC) guru. This was only an experiment to see what type of results I’d get.

Now, with that said, I dug deep into my wallet and decided that I was only willing to spend a whopping $25 on advertising on Facebook and I decided I wanted to do that over the course of a few days. So this wasn’t a big stretch.

So what was it that I advertised? A Clickbank product. I picked something with a gravity of around 8-10 (yes quite low), but had a decent amount of search on Google. So I knew it was a popular topic.

Now, I also decided that I would put up a squeeze page and offer  a report that the Clickbank Vendor had provided as a give away already. Total time to put the squeeze page up…15 minutes. That includes getting all of my Aweber optin stuff setup.

Getting Started with Facebook Advertising

I then set to work on Facebook. I set up my ad campaign to run from Feb 10-15th. My ad budget, $5 a day.

I basically knew who my target audience was… people that had certain keywords in their profile.  As an example, let’s say I was advertising a gold product. I would then find people on Facebook that had the following keywords in their profile:

• Playing Golf
• Golf
• Enjoying Golf
• Going to the golfcourse
• play golf

The great thing about Facebook…as you begin typing your phrase, Facebook suggests the words that people have already put in their profile… this is a slam dunk for keyword generation.

Next, I wrote my ad, nothing fancy. However, I did abide by Facebook’s rules for capitalization, punctuations, photos etc. Since they manually review all ads I had to be careful.

So… after approval a few hours later, I sat back and watched. No tweaking. Nothing.

My Facebook Advertising Results

My results… well check out my Facebook Ad Stats over 5 Days:

I spend under $25, got 95 Clicks out of 146253 Impressions.  Basically, my ad sucked… and Sucked bad. I spent about $.26 a click.

So.. I’m sure you’re wondering… what did I get for that $25.00?

Well, I built the start of a nice list in a decent niche… check out the new subscribers over 5 days.

I added 28 new Leads to my list. I spent under $1 a lead. Which in my opinion wasn’t bad. Nothing huge, but I wasn’t expecting anything.

Let’s do some quick math. 95 Clicks and 28 new leads.. That’s about a 29% conversion rate. Not bad at all.

So, what of those 28 leads… did I make any money from them. Well, check out the Clickbank Account for those 2 days.

I made 2 sales, totalling $67.04. Not a bad return on investment, right? BTW, the only way these sales could have happened is if the person opted into my giveaway. So 2 out of our 28 people purchased.   7% conversion rate.

So, we made $42.64 in just 5 days. No, not enough to get rich off of, or buy a fancy car.

However, if we tweaked our ad, landing page copy just a bit, upped our ad spend, we could easily begin seeing some real results.

Bottom line. Facebook advertising works and works well.

How to Get Started with Facebook Advertising

A week ago I literally knew nothing about Facebook  Advertising. Zilch. I was a Google Adwords guy.

However, I watched this video about Facebook advertising and how it was crushing Google adwords for performance and decided to grab the course. Aside from being pretty inexpensive, it went into detail about how to write an ad, what to say in it, how to target it.

Obviously, I didn’t follow the training verbatim. However, I will go back and watch it again and duplicate everything with much better results.

This topic is very fresh in my mind. I just finished spending about 15 hours putting the final touches on some videos for a new project.

I’ll admit, that most of that time was spent recording, editing and polishing the video. When all was said and done, the LAST thing I wanted to hassle with was getting everything uploaded and put inside my members area.

Come to think of it, I spent about 5 minutes getting about 15 videos online and setup within my members page. (I outline everything I did to make this happen, so don’t worry)

Video Services You Must Use and Why

One of the biggest recurring themes I hear from marketers online is that their web hosting plan has more than enough bandwidth to support video.

While that may be true, it’s not the best use of your web server or the bandwidth. That’s why I strongly recommend anyone that has video or large downloads to use a service like Amazon S3. Amazon’s S3 service is setup to serve up files and video as fast as possible AND remove the burden from your web server. And the best part is, it costs very little.

How little? Well, last month my entire bill was about $9.00 and I store gigs of videos and have tens of thousands of streaming videos playing…and my site never had a hiccup.

How to Get the Video On Amazon

So here’s a little bit of a challenge. Amazon S3 wasn’t designed for the “Non-Techie”. It was designed for developers and programmers to build applications to interact with it. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use it, it just means that it will take a few extra steps.

There are plenty of Desktop applications you can use to upload your files to Amazon S3. Cloud Berry Explorer is one that I’ve used for a while. It’s free (and there’s a paid version). It works much like an FTP program, but is designed specifically for Amazon.

Again, the challenge with using any of these tools is, that not only do you need to send the files to Amazon, you need to set permissions to make sure they can be used AND that they are not leached, stolen or ripped off my people who should have access to them.

How to get video on your page

If you’ve taken my advice up to this point, you now have videos uploaded to Amazon S3 and they are sitting there, waiting for you to put them on your website or blog. So now you need a video player. Again, there are plenty of freely available players.

Two of my favorites are the JW Player and the FlowPlayer. Both have free and paid versions, each with different features. Both players will allow you to play any H.264 compliant movies (which is what all of the online video services support) . To put that in basic terms, it’s what YouTube.com uses and most new movies with .mov, .flv and .mp4 are encoded with.

I won’t go into the specifics on what you need to do on your webpage to get them video embedded, because each site provides some great tutorials (and I’ll probably be putting a video together to explain this later).

Video Services You Can Use

By now, your head is probably spinning. There’s lot to do between setting up an Amazon S3 account, uploading files, setting up players and getting everything into your blog or website.

And that’s the reason why smart people have create services like EZS3.com.

EZS3 takes all of those extra steps out of the way for you by handling all of the uploads to Amazon S3, Setting Permissions and Putting all of the code together to display your video on your web site or blog. It literally takes no time at all to use this service….and plenty of the big names use this as well.

BUT…as much as I like the simplicity… I don’t like the fact that in addition to paying my hosting and paying for amazon, I have to pay another monthly service to have EZS3.com to create save me these steps. Yes… it is very handy…but there is a better solution.

The Best Solution for Using Video

By far, the best solution I’ve seen and begun using myself, is something that delivers the Best of Amazon S3, the best of the video players and the service of EZS3(without the monthly charge).

The best part about this new solution is the fact that it also has some crazy cool features that normally would require a developer to custom code for you.

What I’m talking about are automatically redirecting viewers to another web site or page after the video is playing.

OR

When the video is done, automatically showing an opt in form right inside of the video player that allows people to opt in right after they watch a video..

OR (AND THIS IS THE BEST)

Showing a Clickable Button or Add to Cart button right after the video is shown to create an amazing call to action.

Of course, to implement all of this takes a whopping 2 minutes. Honestly the longest part of the process is uploading the video to Amazon S3. Which is all automatically handled right inside of system.

So..what is this system and why is it so much better? Well, this new system is the EasyVideoPlayer.

The reason it is so much better is because you can run all of this on your own website. You upload this control panel and it takes take of Amazon Video Uploads, setting permissions, changing the look and feel of the player, redirection to other pages and it provides you the code that you cut and paste into your blogs or websites.

There seems to be no slowing down in the Social Media industry. Facebook and Twitter are still the rage. However, the problem is still Social Media overload. Some Internet Marketers believe that Facebook and Twitter are the place to spread affiliate links and never share any good, helpful information.

In my own opinion, it’s those people that may never get ahead, learn more and move beyond their current level.

Alright, that may sound a bit harsh. There are good methods of marketing on social media sites, and that is something I’ve taught and discussed in previous training videos, however, a vast majority of the culprits are pimping IM/Making Money products and not providing any value.

The true value of Social Media

When it comes to Social Media, the best use I can think of is connecting with like minded people. It’s sometimes difficult to do in venues like facebook and twitter because there is so much noise out there.

It’s always refreshing to share good ideas, content and information with others in the industry. It’s these connections that lead to Joint Ventures, Ad Swaps and long lasting partnerships.

At the beginning of December, I had the chance to hang out with Chuck Mullaney, the creator of JVMe.com . This is a social networking site that integrates with Twitter and Facebook and is much more Marketer Friendly. It’s a great resource for sharing information, finding great JV partners and learning more about Internet Marketing from experts.

Technology is a great thing. Sometimes. If you know how to use it and when to use it’s extremely helpful.

In my last post I discussed building trust, giving something back to your readers, subscribers and customers and just trying to be more “social”. That is the right way to use the Social Networking. While it might seem to be common sense, noone is really teaching you how to do it effectively.

Yes, there are/were some great Internet Marketers doing this and their training and courses where thousands of dollars, but spending more money is always the right thing to do.

If you really want to understand how to leverage social media the right way you need to learn by example. Watch someone that is doing it the right way and succeeding. Copy their strategies, listen to what they have to say and replicate…and of course, make it your own.

This applies to any niche, it doesn’t just have to be the ever popular make money online niche.

Just an Example

Last week I was talking to a friend of mine, Jonny Andrews, and he was telling me about his recent Sky Diving experience. I knew he was a bit crazy, but this proved it…but what he told me afterwards was even more crazy.

He had posted pictures of his “inflight” experience on Facebook and shared it with his friends. I believe he has under a 1000 on facebook. Well, he said people started commenting on them and checking out some of his other pictures and stuff on there. He said just from posting some crazy pictures on facebook and adding a bit of a twist, he was able to generate a ton of traffic to his sites and make 10k extra.

He told me he’s been using this system for a while and it’s been working great and is going to be showing some people how to use it.

This is a topic that I’ve been really paying a lot of attention to lately. In fact, it’s really all I have been paying attention to. I’m not talking about what I’m running from, because I’m not… I’m talking about Mindset.

Mindset is important. It’s the single biggest factor to your success online yet people spend little time working on it or really thinking about it.

The fact is…people want to become online marketers because they see and hear about these great success stories. People making millions of dollars a year online.

Those that aren’t succeeding, that aren’t achieving their goals, are likely running from something. They are running from their current job, they are running from debt, they are running from their current life. There lies the problem.

Over the past several months I’ve reflected on what I’ve achieved in my life, both online and offline. While I was working on my online business, I never felt the need to quit my job or to escape my family. I’m not in debt, although I have been and I distinctly remember the feeling.

The truth is, when I started working on my online business, I was always running to something. I was looking forward to the income, the checks. I envisioned how easy it was going to be. I knew that if others had done it, so could I, and it just happened. I didn’t do anything magical. I didn’t look for a shortcut.  Like Nike, I knew to ‘Just Do it’.

Step 1 for success, stop running away, and begin running toward your goal.

What is Mindset?

Mindset means different things to different people. I’m probably one of the few people that hadn’t read The Secret until recently. It’s amazing that what I read in that book I had been practicing for some time. And as I began to look around and remember all of the recent training, coaching, seminars and people I’ve spoken with, books I’ve read, etc.. there was a recurring theme. You change your beliefs, adjust your mindset, think success and you will achieve it.

Here are a few examples. In April I was in San Diego attending Mass Control 2. Frank Kern had the group do quite a few exercises… ranging from envisioning your perfect life, to writing exactly what you will accomplish in one year. Again, not envisioning what you want, envision what you can have. Act as if you already have it.

A few months later I attended Launch Tree Live in Vegas. Again, Frank Kern spoke, but this time, it was Marshall Sylver’s presentation that overlapped. You must act and believe that you have already achieved success and it will follow.

Finally and most recently, the videos that Tony Robbins just put together with John Reese and Frank Kern contained much of the same content. Changing your beliefs will allow you to succeed.

Step 2 for success, believe you will be successful and eventually you will be.

Excuses and Negativity

I thoroughly enjoy my work(if you can call it that). I enjoy communicating with my members and subscribers. Occasionally, I’ll have some people unsubscribe from my list…and when they do, they feel compelled to leave a comment or reason. I love that… and I encourage it. It allows me to grow and adapt.

The excuses I often see are things like, “This stuff doesn’t work”, “I can’t afford to do this”, “These ideas take too long, I need money now”. It are those people that will continue to subscribe and unsubscribe from others lists, spending countless hours online looking for one secret that will give them their success.

It amazes me that people can spend so much time complaining, but aren’t willing to take the time to be positive and make a difference for themselves.

Step 3 for success, focus on being positive and grateful. A little positive energy goes a long way.

Failure is an Option

I want to make something perfectly clear… it’s OK to fail. It’s perfectly fine for you to not have an immediate success. It is NOT Ok to give up, blame someone else and create excuses for the failure. It happens. Be realistic about the failure, course correct and move on. I’ve had several failed business ventures and many of the industry “gurus” have openly admitted their failures. Had they given up, they wouldn’t have achieved their guru status or the big bank accounts and success they have today.

What Are You Going To Do Right Now?

Seriously. Right now at this very second. Right after you read this. What are you going to do? Are you going to go on, wasting time(not saying reading this is wasting time by any means), checking the news, reading other blogs, picking through sales pages… OR are you going to make a plan for yourself. Are you going to change your beliefs, your mindset and begin each day being grateful for what you know, what you are about to accomplish and they things you are about to have because of your change in mindset?

Take action, move forward.
