It was only a matter of time and as I said in some previous posts, it’s nice to be ahead of the curve.

The other day, Google’s Matt Cutts discussed how serious they are getting with video and getting ramped up for Google TV.

Even though Google owns YouTube, there are big plans to begin index more and more video across the web. So much, that Matt encourage search experts and developers to begin using video sitemaps to get their videos indexed and listed in Google.

“Video site maps is something that we’re probably going to look at a little more closely. If you tell us where your videos are, we will try to index them a little bit harder,” Cutts said. “For example, if you think about things like Google TV, coming out in the fall, it’s in everybody’s interest that all the videos that are on the web be able to be very discoverable and very searchable. If you produce videos and you haven’t done a video site map, that is something that I would definitely recommend.”

Google flat out tells you that video works and that they are looking to index it.

Everyone is looking for new methods of getting tons of traffic to their blog or website. Now, you can leverage the power of Facebook to accomplish that. There are some serious benefits to doing this and somethings that search engines like Google just won’t like.

Facebook Introduces “Like” button for off Facebook websites

There you have it. Facebook has decided to allow off Facebook sites to include “Like” or “Recommend” buttons on websites, which means you can include this feature on your own blog or website very, very easily.

Just like the image above, someone can easily be reading your blog, decide they like your post and simply “Like” it. By doing so, it will put a link directly to that page on their Facebook wall and recently activity page, just like the image below.

This is great if your viewer has lots of friends that may be interested in that topic.

It also helps build social proof and support as the Badge also lists how many people have also “Liked” or “Recommended” your site or post.

Why Google Will Hate This

The SERPS (Search Engine Page Results) display pages based on content and links, unfortunately, Facebook feeds are not indexed. What that means is that your link from Facebook will not give your site any additional weight when it comes to Google, Yahoo, Bing etc.

What is DOES mean, is that now Facebook will begin to carry more weight from social networking recommendations.  Essentially, Facebook’s own internal search engine could very easily carry more power when it comes to articles, posts and content that does viral.

What About Wall Spam in Facebook?

Since “Liking” a topic or post is completely up to you, no-one else can spam your wall with links from this new out going “Like” feature. That’s great news.

So bottom line is, provide valuable content, make lots of Facebook friends and the new Like feature can be a great benefit to you since your link can now show up on hundreds or thousands of Walls.

How To Add Your Own Like Button

There are plenty of new Wordpress Like button plugins available. They all essentially do exactly the same thing. Since this is all fairly new, they are all carry about the same rating and downloads. You’ll need to experiment your self.

I choose to use the “Wordpress Facebook-Like” plugin and it has been performing fine so far.

If you don’t have a blog and want to include your own recommends or like button on a regular HTML website and know a little bit about HTML tags and code, you can follow the instructions located on the Facebook Site. The Facebook plugins page provides details and a like wizard to make it easy for you to include the Like button and other Facebook widgets on your site.

Just a year ago, long form sales letters were all the rage. Everyone needed an expensive copywriter.

Now, video sales letters are popping up all over the place and more and more products are being sold exclusively through video.

The problem is, if you’re an affiliate marketer and not selling a product of your own, you most likely will think that there is no need for video.

That couldn’t be further from the truth.

Video marketing has been used by affiliates for a while, but many of them just don’t know how to take advantage of all of the benefits that are available to them.

Yes, sites like Youtube and Facebook are great for posting videos, but if you aren’t providing the right message in your videos then you are missing out.

What to Include in Your Videos

Whether you want to get on camera yourself, create a simple slideshow or something more fancy with complicated video editing software, you need to have the right message.

• Including an attention grabbing first 10 seconds. This can be an engaging question that get’s the viewer thinking, a comment or shocking statement or eye catching graphic.
• Build a better body…what I mean here is have some “meat” in your video. Add some content that answers the questions your viewer wants to know more. This could be a handful of statements on a topic, some bullet points, step by step instructions or even more leading questions.
• Call to Action – Many videos lack this key element. After your viewer has spent their time watching your video message, what do you want them to do. Tell them exactly what you expect of them. That includes “Go to this website for more information”, “For the second half of this video go to..”, “Call 1-800.#### for more information”, “Claim your free download at…”

Getting your Videos Noticed

No doubt you have seen ALL of the promotions for Frank Kern’s List Control. So, I’m sure you’re wondering what all the hype is about and WHY it’s so important to build a list.

So, let me tell you, and provide you some ideas for list building.

Why build a list…

The main reason to build a list is so you can market to the same people over and over again. It will typically take a message, in any medium, at least 5-7 times before it makes an impact on someone and actually gets a response.

While traffic strategies and link building are important, you will typically only get the same vistor from a web search 1-2 times. Unless of course you are providing tons of great, new content.

By building a list, you are able to send you message to that person in different formats, with different content and different headlines, always providing some content and value, while softly selling.

Buyers List vs Prospect List

The difference is obvious between a prospect list and a buyers list. Obviously, the buyers have spent money. Unfortunately, as an affiliate, it’s difficult to build a buyers list when you are promoting someone else’s product. Unless you are using tools like CBBonusDomination or cbNotifications.com to notify buyers that purchase from your affiliate link and get them added to your list, it’s next to impossible for affiliates to build a list of buyers.

Of course,  having your own product can also give you access to your customers. However, YOUR customers expect more from you. Meaning, don’t let it be a pitch fest after they buy your product. Again, list management is a large portion email marketing. (This is something that Kern talks about in List Control)

Ideas for List Building, How I do it

I mostly promote products on Clickbank for a variety of reason. First, because I can easily test products in the same niche using the same keywords and pretty easily just change the product out.

Second, I use cbNotifications to build a buyers list. It basically sends out an email each time someone purchases through my Clickbank Affiliate Link, offering a bonus or something else. It requires that buyer to signup to my list in order to get their download. This is building a niche buyers list for me without doing much work at all.

This also gives me a solid list of buyers in a specific niche.

Typically, I’ll create my own domain for a niche. It’s usually a generic, niche specific domain that I can easily swap out campaigns. I’ll then put together a brief sales video (nothing fancy), that offers a 2nd video or Top 10 reports of sorts. All along, I use content from the Clickbank product sales page for my videos.

If the prospect is engaged, then they will optin for the second video, thus building my prospect list. After they optin, they get my giveaway, plus I recommend the Clickbank product that’s associated with it.

This process works great, and I use it in several niches. Once it’s setup, it runs on auto pilot. I then use some cool Aweber automations to move buyers from the prospect lists and include some follow-ups for the prospects. I’ll typically provide content for the main Clickbank product, then try out a few others over the course of a few weeks.

What you need to build a list

To begin list building, you will obviously need a list. You’re also going to need some traffic. You can get this via SEO technics, BUM marketing PPC or word of mouth marketing (ie forums, boards etc.)

It’s beyond the scope of this post to get into SEO and traffic techniques, but what I’ve laid out for you should provide a good start.

Tools for List Building

You’re going to need some giveaways, an autoresponder account like aweber and some patience. Plus, you’re going to have to know how to talk with your list and treat them.

Of course, this week Frank Kern rolled out List Control. I personally think it will be a good course and I always recommend his products and training. It’s not for everybody. It’s Live webinar training that I’m sure will be filled with great content and you’ll get your questions answered.

It’s interesting that more and more people are always quoting the phrase “the money is in the list”, but few every figure out how to get the money out of the list they build.

Over the last 2 years, I’ve spoken with many new internet marketers that struggle with the concept of list building.  They aren’t sure where to start, how to start and what to do. In fact, I’ve recently asked my list how had a list, surprisingly, 80% had a list of 500 or less subscribers?

Is that bad? Well, yes and no. It’s not bad if that is a list of 500 buyers, or even 100 buyers. It’s not bad if you’re providing that list with create content, providing value and able to monetize that list.

I’ve found that at one point I fell in to the same trap. Instead of continually provide good, helpful content on a regular basis, I slipped into a “pitch mode”. Why? Because I was told that the money was in the list and I had to sell to them continuously. I can now tell you from personal experience, this doesn’t work.

When you’re building your list, you have to do a few things first. Obviously, you need to have something worthwhile to attract the person. So, you give away something cool, helpful and good.

Here’s where most people make their first mistake. They give away crap. Nothing good. Nothing real helpful. They are basically keeping the good stuff back to “sell” to them later. You should be doing just the opposite. Give something really helpful away. Maybe not your biggest trick, but one of the better ones… Keep them engaged.

Next, you need to give them some more cool stuff. List building is about relationship building. Engaging the subscriber and getting them to understand who you are and trust you. People are not going to trust people that are in their face with their hands out, looking for cash. It just doesn’t work that way.

After you’ve been helpful, given some cool stuff to them, then…and only then… will you begin to build some trust. Give them something cool,and helpful, they are likely to buy something you recommend.

Sometimes it just takes one of those Ah-Ha moments to snap back into reality and see what’s going on around you.

I’ve recently remembered exactly why I got into online marketing and why I’ve created sites that help other marketers… it was about giving back and teaching others.

This past weekend I popped in a DVD from one of the first products I ever purchased, Frank Kern’s Mass Control. I watched the Core Influence video, which is one that changed my thinking at the time…and changed it once again this past weekend. This stuff is just pure good, helpful stuff.

Frank’s getting ready to release a new product, List Control, and I’ll likely get my hands on that just because I’m sure there will be some great new information in the product. And of-course, Frank is going to be giving away some great stuff as well.

If you’re thinking about ways to build your list, then start with thinking about what you can give away that’s truly worthwhile and helpful to the subscriber. Mass Control taught about money magnets, the little things you give away that will bring the money back to you. This stuff works.

As I learn more about List Control I’ll post something about here and I’ll likely put together a cool bonus for it as well.

I’ve heard so much about Facebook advertising that I decided to take it for a spin myself. Before I get into the details, I want to put out an important disclaimer:

I am not a Pay Per Click (PPC) guru. This was only an experiment to see what type of results I’d get.

Now, with that said, I dug deep into my wallet and decided that I was only willing to spend a whopping $25 on advertising on Facebook and I decided I wanted to do that over the course of a few days. So this wasn’t a big stretch.

So what was it that I advertised? A Clickbank product. I picked something with a gravity of around 8-10 (yes quite low), but had a decent amount of search on Google. So I knew it was a popular topic.

Now, I also decided that I would put up a squeeze page and offer  a report that the Clickbank Vendor had provided as a give away already. Total time to put the squeeze page up…15 minutes. That includes getting all of my Aweber optin stuff setup.

Getting Started with Facebook Advertising

I then set to work on Facebook. I set up my ad campaign to run from Feb 10-15th. My ad budget, $5 a day.

I basically knew who my target audience was… people that had certain keywords in their profile.  As an example, let’s say I was advertising a gold product. I would then find people on Facebook that had the following keywords in their profile:

• Playing Golf
• Golf
• Enjoying Golf
• Going to the golfcourse
• play golf

The great thing about Facebook…as you begin typing your phrase, Facebook suggests the words that people have already put in their profile… this is a slam dunk for keyword generation.

Next, I wrote my ad, nothing fancy. However, I did abide by Facebook’s rules for capitalization, punctuations, photos etc. Since they manually review all ads I had to be careful.

So… after approval a few hours later, I sat back and watched. No tweaking. Nothing.

My Facebook Advertising Results

My results… well check out my Facebook Ad Stats over 5 Days:

I spend under $25, got 95 Clicks out of 146253 Impressions.  Basically, my ad sucked… and Sucked bad. I spent about $.26 a click.

So.. I’m sure you’re wondering… what did I get for that $25.00?

Well, I built the start of a nice list in a decent niche… check out the new subscribers over 5 days.

I added 28 new Leads to my list. I spent under $1 a lead. Which in my opinion wasn’t bad. Nothing huge, but I wasn’t expecting anything.

Let’s do some quick math. 95 Clicks and 28 new leads.. That’s about a 29% conversion rate. Not bad at all.

So, what of those 28 leads… did I make any money from them. Well, check out the Clickbank Account for those 2 days.

I made 2 sales, totalling $67.04. Not a bad return on investment, right? BTW, the only way these sales could have happened is if the person opted into my giveaway. So 2 out of our 28 people purchased.   7% conversion rate.

So, we made $42.64 in just 5 days. No, not enough to get rich off of, or buy a fancy car.

However, if we tweaked our ad, landing page copy just a bit, upped our ad spend, we could easily begin seeing some real results.

Bottom line. Facebook advertising works and works well.

How to Get Started with Facebook Advertising

A week ago I literally knew nothing about Facebook  Advertising. Zilch. I was a Google Adwords guy.

However, I watched this video about Facebook advertising and how it was crushing Google adwords for performance and decided to grab the course. Aside from being pretty inexpensive, it went into detail about how to write an ad, what to say in it, how to target it.

Obviously, I didn’t follow the training verbatim. However, I will go back and watch it again and duplicate everything with much better results.
